Masca del Tacco is the Puglia estate of the Mergè family's I Viticoltori group, which also owns Poggio Le Volpi near Rome. It began when Felice Mergè took over and renovated the old producers' cooperative in Erchie, active since 1949.
Its roughly 200 hectares lie in the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto, with old bush-trained (alberello) Primitivo vines. The estate also grows Susumaniello, Negroamaro and Fiano. Lu Rappaio is a Primitivo di Manduria DOP from flat soil rich in iron and limestone near the Ionian Sea, aged in steel and wood.
