The family behind Castillo de Canena has worked with olive oil since 1780. The brand is named after the Renaissance castle in Canena, in the province of Jaén, which became a palace in 1538 and has been a national monument since 1931.
In 2003 siblings Rosa and Francisco turned the family's bulk-oil business into a premium extra virgin brand. The oils come from Picual, Arbequina and Royal olives grown around Canena and are sold in about 60 countries. The range includes first-day-harvest oils and an oak-smoked oil.
