Ramazzotti amaro was created in Milan in 1815 by Ausano Ramazzotti, a pharmacist from Bologna. It is now made in Canelli, in the province of Asti, and the brand has belonged to Pernod Ricard since 1985.
It is made from at least 33 roots and herbs, among them Sicilian orange peel, star anise, cardamom and cloves, with caramelised sugar. The classic amaro is bottled at 30% ABV, and the range also includes other liqueurs and aperitivos, among them an alcohol-free one.
